The mission of the Emergency Management and Response Team is to have a positive impact on the people of our community, country and world in their hour of need and to provide opportunities for people to be educated in the areas of personal preparedness before a disaster strikes.

Our goals are:

  • to assist the general public and support City, County, State and National and International Emergency Services in emergency situations.
  • to be a beacon of light and hope to our community and beyond.
  • to have a positive impact on those around us.
  • to be Christ to those that are seeking.

Our Emergency Management and Response Team members are active in multiple areas of service. Those interested in serving may participate in their individual area of interest only or in multiple areas, per the following organization chart:

In September, 2005, we sent a Disaster Relief Team of eighteen to serve for two weeks in Slidell, LA in the aftermath of Katrina. We took needed supplies to Slidell First Church where we helped with their community outreach food bank, completed various debris removal and mold spore evacuation projects, handed out crisis care kits, Evangelism Explosion tracts and Gideon New Testaments, supported Heart-to-Heart Medical Team by providing the services of our Emergency Medical Technician and two Clinical Counselors.

In April, 2007, we joined Denver First Church and Iglesia Familia del Nazareno de Denver (Denver Family Church) in sending two teams to Holly, Colorado in the aftermath of the tornado. We collected and delivered needed supplies to Holly Church of the Nazarene, worked on two roofing projects and one interior carpet and drywall removal project and prepared, served and fed the residents of Holly during a community outreach event.  On June 21, 2008, 53 WCON volunteers spent the day making an impact in the Windsor, Colorado area, an area hard hit by the May 22nd tornado. We accomplished debris removal and assisted with the move and reorganization of the Distribution Center over to the Collection Center located at the old Steele's Market. For a full trip report click here.

We are co-sponsoring a FREE 32 hour CERT class (Community Emergency response Training) in September 2008 here at WCON in collaboration with the Adams County Office of Emergency Management and have brochures available at the Connection Center on preparedness issues. Click here for flyer.

We have our own four-wheel drive and ham radio operator groups ready to respond as needed. We are working with the Colorado VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters) in statewide response efforts and with the Mile High Chapter of the Red Cross on our sheltering initiative.

As you can see, there is a place for everyone to serve on the Emergency Management and Response Team! If you are interested in learning more, please feel free to attend our monthly meetings on the first Thursday of the month from 6:30 - 8:00 pm in Room 214, or contact our Local Missionary,
Janette Mikatich, for more information.
